Voice Over Artist
Voice over artists have contributed over the years to making presentations much more effective and entertaining to viewers. Whether a voice over artist is required to provide intrigue to an engaging scene, interest to a particular thought or emotion to a particular sentiment being expressed by the on-screen or onstage character, a voice over artist certainly has a big role to play.
A voice over is actually a narrative technique used when an on screen actor’s lines are heard over the visual elements in a documentary, movie or TV commercial. Many celebrity actors and musicians have lent their talent to the art of doing voice overs by expressing interest in becoming voice over artists. This talent actually adds more depth to a particular artist’s abilities, as you are generally put in the position where you have to get into character without actually being in front of the camera or on the stage.
A voice over artist who is very talented can expect to have a very long and successful career in the field, however getting your foot through the door is the part that will require a little work. It is a very competitive field out there with established celebrities as well as newcomers to the industry fiercely battling for the esteemed voice over jobs. Because some voices that are already popular are sought out for commercials and other TV programs like documentaries, it may be very hard for a newcomer to the voice over artistry industry to break into the field.
Although a narration is required to have a certain tone, mood or personality, a voiceover artist will also be required to put his or her own spin on the script. In most cases, the director would indicate to the voice over artist the kind of mood the script should invoke, and the artist would then display creativity in bringing that interpretation to life.
As glamorous and exciting as the field of voice over artistry seems, it can truly be a very challenging arena to work in. Often times, the voice over artist may not get the script correct the first time, and will end up spending many hours recording and rerecording lines until the director of the program is satisfied with the result.
In order to become a voiceover artist, people would first need to go through some kind of schooling or training in the field. It is not necessarily good enough to have a great voice that would sound good on radio or on stage. Getting the right training is the key to becoming a successful voice over artist. Once you have acquired the requisite training, you can start to attend open auditions to get voice over work as well as get signed up with a talent agency that represents voice over artists. And when you have landed those auditions, just make sure you have your voice reel with you containing your best voice over work so the interviewer can see the vastness of your abilities.
